Oct. 17, 1986 Articles of Incorporation filed – Ken Cassat, John Lisle, Michael Thompson, J. P. Montgomery and Lowell Lines as organizers.

Nov. 13, 1986 Election: President – Thompson, Vice President – Lisle, Secretary/Treasurer – Cassat Elected additional directors: James Millhone, Evelyn Herzberg, Bill Richardson, Kenneth Jensen, John Clark, Lowell Geer, Bob Bailey, Clarence Lippert, Marie Sump, Mernie Hays.

Jan. 13, 1987 The Clarinda Foundation received the 501(c)(3) status from IRS

Feb. 26, 1987 Robert and Karen Duncan donated $25,000 in the form of a challenge grant to be matched by $50,000 unrestricted gifts to the Foundation within one year.

May 14, 1987 Officers elected: President – Michael Thompson, 1st Vice President – John Lisle, 2nd Vice President – Lowell Lines, 3rd Vice President – James Millhone, Secretary/Treasurer – Evelyn Herzberg.

Book of Memory (later known as Book of Honor) was established.

Benefactor classification established with $10,000 minimum, and a Benefactor was printed giving biographical information about each donor.

Feb. 18, 1989 First grant awarded: $4,000 for furnishings and decorating Municipal Hospital waiting room.

Sept. 15, 1989 Grant of $2,047 buys appliances for Wibholm Hall.

May 10, 1990 Grant of $3,925 buys reference books for Clarinda schools.

May 22, 1990 Janice Layton appointed Executive Director.

March 25, 1991 Offer by Rollie Livingston to donate an office building to the Foundation is received.

April 20, 1991 Becky Davis hired as Executive Director.

Aug. 29, 1991 Lied Center to be the name for the new community building (numerous activities to raise funds, etc. followed)

Sept. 7, 1991 Challenge grant of $500,000 offered for Lied Center by Christina Hixson of the Lied Foundation Trust in Las Vegas.

Dec. 8, 1991 Foundation honors Christina Hixson who increases challenge pledge for Lied Center to $750,000.

March 12, 1992 Johnny Carson donates $150,000 toward Lied Center.

May 1992 Awarded $200 in scholarships.

Jan. 11, 1993 Beginning of the Clarinda Foundation newsletter the “Beacon”.

Jan. 20, 1993 Dorothy J. Salomon Memorial Scholarship Fund established.

Oct. 27, 2004 Clarinda Foundation joins Greater Shenandoah Foundation in the Page County Endowment committee as an affiliate of the Omaha Foundation to administer “gaming funds”.

January 2005 Robert Caswell resigns after 14 years as Executive Director of the Clarinda Foundation; John Woolson named as replacement with Pat Beggs as Administrative Assistant.

July 21, 2007 Scott and Nancy Brown offer building at 114 E. Washington for Clarinda Foundation office on a 10-year no rental fee lease; board agrees to sell current building.

Nov. 1, 2007 Moved into offices at 114 E. Washington St., Brown Building (Scott Brown owner, formerly Brown Shoe Fit).

Dec. 5, 2007 Awarded $23,396 in grants.

Dec. 13, 2007 Southwest Iowa Foundation proposes new challenge grant with Clarinda and Shenandoah foundations endowed funds used for matching grant to Page County Endowment Committee.

Nov. 15, 2010 Foundation Board approves donation of $100,000 to the Clarinda Medical Foundation’s “Building on Exceptional Care” campaign from the Foundation’s undesignated fund to be used for the purchase of 4 chemotherapy infusion chairs, 2 Stryker bariatric beds and 2 Stryker position pro-hospital beds for use in the ICU area.
